What is KidCast?
KidCast is a podcast created by kids, for kids
aged 5 - 12 years old.
Each episode is hosted by Céire O’Donoghue and a different child guest host. We hear from voices around Ireland (and the world!) interviewing guests, reporting child friendly news, teaching fun facts and above all providing a fun and entertaining podcast experience for kids.
Who is Céire?
Céire O’Donoghue is an actor and drama facilitator from Kildare. She is also a mum of three who, like many parents during lockdown, reached to different media to keep her children engaged in homeschool learning. Podcasts were a huge hit but the lack of choice geared towards Irish listeners encouraged Céire to fill this gap. Céire has spent most of her working life either behind a microphone or rolling around a drama class with her students! In 2021, with the help of the Arts Council, she combined her two passions into KidCast!
With a BA in Drama and German from Trinity College Dublin, Céire went on to train as a professional actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Most recently she gained a diploma in Radio and Podcasting from the Today FM School of Radio, from where the KidCast seeds were grown!
While starting her career as a secondary school German teacher, Céire’s love of drama prevailed. She has since been resident drama teacher at Inchicore National School in Dublin and facilitated drama classes for kids with Stagecoach Ireland, Wonderland Theatre, Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre and Kildare Youth Theatre as well as facilitating anti-bullying drama workshops with Sticks and Stones across the country.
As an actor Céire has worked extensively on stage and screen in the UK and Ireland. Some of her roles include Fair City, Vikings, Striking Out, Conversations With Friends and Valhalla. As well as voicing audio books, E-Learning programmes and corporate videos some of Céire’s recent commercial work includes Volkeswagen, Pandora, Centreparcs, McDonalds and Sky TV.
